Beaux's IronDream

Hey there, my name is Joshua Beauplan, but nowadays I go by Beaux ("Bo"). I'm a 21 year old Palm Beach transplant currently living in the heart of Miami.

The skinny version:
I am trying to raise enough money by the end of August to pay for tuition at IronHack (a coding/web development school) for their Part-time UX/UI Design Course. I graciously received a scholarship from Uber for $6000 but because I am not eligible to take out a loan on my own to close the gap, I am looking to you, the community, for help. As someone who wishes to devote my life to  finding solutions and advocating for others, I realize that it first starts with advocating for myself.

Any help is substantial help and greatly appreciated!

•$3000 goes toward the remaining tuition

The Hearty Version:
What initially brought me down South was the opportunity of receiving a Biomedical Engineering degree at the University of Miami (#GoCanes!) Unfortunately during the 1 & 1/2 years that I attended, I completely struggled my way through. Not because I couldn't comprehend the subjects, but because I was overwhelmed.

•My first semester, Fall 2014, I commuted 3 hours to and from Palm Beach, everyday via public transit.

•My second semester, Spring 2015, after being granted a clean academic slate and taking out a loan to live on campus, depression started to kick in as I finally came to terms with my brother's passing the year prior.

•My third semester, Fall 2015. Failing to prove proficiency in the spring and coming to terms with my sexuality, I became anxiety stricken and completely shut down. (For weeks I stayed shut in my room, rarely eating, leaving my bed, and cutting all contact.)

•Spring 2016, I was withdrawn by the school. Thankfully my best friends at the time sheltered me while I stumbled back onto my feet.

Now don't think that this story is only going to be about my hardships! Growing up a first generation Haitian American, I witnessed the value of hard work and had the emphasis of community empowerment ingrained in me. Despite feeling pulverized after each wave of setbacks, I did continue to fight. During that 2 year span of time, I managed to win the Clinton Global Initiative University Codeathon with my teammates and started working at Zaniac, a S.T.E.A.M. Robotics learning program for K-8. And as of early this year, received a $6000 scholarship from Uber!

This scholarship and the opportunity to attend IronHack is what brings me here today. After all the self care and structured discipline I've given myself this past year, I'm ready to try my hand again at gaining an education so that I can use my privilege to bring privilege to others.
