Beau's Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
This is my little brother, Beau, who found out 4 days before Christmas 2016 that he was in kidney failure and would have to go on dialysis. In the early days, he was optimistic that he could do the dialysis and still work as a service engineer for Rolls Royce Marine. He has been a service engineer working on propulsion systems on ships and oil rigs all over the world for almost 20 years after 6 years in the Navy. He does dialysis every day making a return to work impossible. There is just no way to travel with that equipment and most days he feels sick until early afternoon, only to have to hook up again in the evening for another 9 hours. All of this has taken a financial toll as well as a mental toll on him and his family. He has a wonderful wife, Kim and 2 teenagers, Cody and Carley. Carley plans on being a nurse and gets his dialysis equipment set up for him every night.
Fast forward 18 months...I was approved to donate a kidney but while we are a match, he rejected me so we entered the Kidney Paired Donor Program at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, which matches other non matching pairs to each other. A living donor has been found and he will have surgery on the 20th to get a new kidney! Since the hospital is 2.5 hours from the house he will have to stay in a hotel for close to a month so they can monitor him and get him ready for life post dialysis.
The money we raise will go towards medical bills (past and future) as well as his hotel and food for the month after surgery. Any amount is appreciated and those of you that know my brother know that he is a generous man who will most definitely pay it forward once he's feeling better.

Fun fact: Beau is in a group of 14 people, 7 donors and 7 recipients who will give/receive their kidney's 7.13.18 thru 7.23.18. He is in the longest running kidney chain in the U.S. I will be the bridge donor to the next group as I'm not in this one. For more information on this you can go here http://www.uab.edu/kidneychain/
