Beat Stage IV Cancer #JoinJoe

Donazione protetta
Over the course of several months Terry (Joe) had been taking over-the-counter pain medications to suppress pain he was experiencing. Joe presumed the pain to be a result of sciatica, also known as piriformis syndrome. Despite not having health coverage on October 28, 2017 Joe self-admitted to St. Alphonsus medical center because the pain had become unbearable in his right iliac crest radiating into his right lower back and right teste.

After five days in the hospital; two CAT scans, a PET scan, ultrasound, a tissue and bone biopsy the doctors made a preliminary diagnosis of lymphadenopathy with strong suspicions of lymphoma leading to his subsequent and outpatient discharge November 3rd, 2017.

Lymphoma is characterized by its affect upon the lymph nodes, both above and below the diaphragm, but not limited to cancer cells elsewhere in the body; in a lung or in the liver, or bone. Lymphoma is cancer that begins in infection-fighting cells of the immune system, called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are in the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, bone marrow, and other parts of the body. When you have lymphoma, lymphocytes change and grow out of control.

Following a lymph node biopsy on Joe’s neck and intensive pathological testing it was determined Joe has Hodgkin’s lymphoma. As a result of lymphoma painful lesions formed in Joe's right hip confining him to a wheelchair. Because of Joe's virtual incapacitation St. Alphonsus ordered The Board of County Commisioners and Ada County Indigent Services to immediately approve of three cycles of radiation. After county approval Dr. Brooks issued the radiation in hopes to melt away the lesions and successfully eliminate the pain in Joe's right iliac crest. After the three radiation treatments Joe's pain has since subsided leaving only Dr. Hodson's issuance of six months of chemotherapy to complete. We are working with MedData and a number of other institutions that can advocate social services and medical expenses on behalf of Joe.

On December 29th, 2017 Joe would begin his first round of 6 months of chemotherapy at St. Alphonsus Boise. While round 1 of chemotherapy went very well, Joe remains very tired, yet still adamant and proactive of his pursuit of his Master’s degree and newfound career in professorship at Boise State University. January 9th, 2018 Joe begins his first teaching position instructing two sections of University Foundations (UF100).

This GoFundMe site has been created to help afford urgent medical expenses. We are confident in Joe's recovery, however, he has a difficult fight ahead of him but we are committed to doing everything in our power to help him cure this aggressive cancer.

Joe is the wonderful father of our two beautiful children Aviyanah (12) and Aarion (6). His health matters the most to these two. They are his world! And he is their world! It has been very difficult to see my children see their loving father in so much pain. It’s heartbreaking trying to explain to Aviyanah and Aarion to help them understand what is happening to their father. This uncertainty motivates me to help him in any way possible so that we can see them happy to have their daddy back to good health so please on behalf of the family of Joe we humbly request and gratefully accept your donation(s). It will make all the difference in their fight to help him overcome stage IV Hodgkin’s lymphoma putting him on the road to recovery so he can continue to pursue his dream; raising his two beautiful children and teaching at Boise State University.

Whoever and wherever you are...We love you and appreciate you!
