Help Jess beat Kidney Disease

Back in December, I had routine blood work done in Alma, Georgia. It showed some abnormalities involving my kidneys.

The doctor began repeating the tests, trying to figure out the cause. She changed some medications around, admitted me to the hospital once due to my potassium levels and eventually referred me to a specialist.

Ive been meeting with the nephrologist for a month now. When I first began to see him my kidney function was at 40 Percent.

As of yesterday, my kidney function is down to 27 percent, which is stage four kidney disease, and he still is unable to figure out what is causing my kidneys to break down.

15 percent is renal failure, also known as stage 5 kidney disease or end stage kidney disease.

The doctor thinks it is one of six auto immune diseases that is causing my kidneys to break down. A biopsy should tell them which one and if they can treat it. I’ve been waiting for the Waycross hospital to schedule one since the beginning of the month and they still can’t give a definitive answer of when they may be able to do it.

The decline in my kidney function is irreversible. So, even if they figure it out in the next few days, we can only try to stop it in it’s tracks, but we cannot go back to normal.

I see go fund me pages on Facebook and always think I would never do that; however, a man has to swallow his pride when it’s almost too late.

My mother and I will be going and staying in Savannah until they figure out what is going on and hopefully find a course of treatment.

I hope to be able to get admitted immediately and go into surgery, but the specialist thinks they will probably require their own testing, which will delay the process further.

Nevertheless, I am not leaving until I figure out what’s causing this.

Lodging, food, unexpected travel expenses, along with the deductibles, co-pays and other medical costs are not what I had prepared for this year.

I only recently moved back home to Douglas from Savannah last fall after my apartment flooded.

It always seems like life can try and kick you when you are down. Nevertheless, with God’s help I will conquer this terrible affliction.

Any help would be beyond appreciated.
