No Shave November for M.S.

Donation protected
This November, 2014, I will be growing out my facial hair for the entirety of the month to raise awareness and money for my mom, Chris, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.). Chris is a Mother of four grown children in total and whom is also a Grandma!

She has always been very healthy and active, so, after spending the Fourth of July (2010) holiday boating on The Fox River in IL, she was surprised when she woke the next morning to find left side Paresthesia and numbness. After a trip to the ER, MRI with contrast and spinal tap, Chris was diagnosed with MS and spent the next four days in the hospital. She has had a few relapses since and suffers many of the debilitating symptoms of MS patients. Multiple Sclerosis effects those who suffer from it in so many different ways. I want to do something to help. She has accrued massive debt from hospital expenses and the medication alone is extremely expensive and she pays for that out of pocket. My goal for her is to raise $20,000. There are two main focuses with this goal; prevention and treatment.

Treatment: Chris has to take a steroid injection of Methylprenisolone twice a year, which costs $547 each. Her MRI's cost $450 out of pocket, which have to be taken in order to track the development of lesions on her brain. The medicine she receives that she takes every day costs her $180 per month from Walgreens. She has $14,000 in outstanding hospital fees from the relapses she has had requiring hospitalization.

Prevention:
In the middle of October, 2014, I received a text message from my mom, Chris, stating that she had fallen in the garage. She told me that she was reaching for something one minute, and the next minute she was on the ground staring at the ceiling and could not get up. Her muscles would not move. She was stuck for some time until my sister came looking for her and found her on her back. She had fallen on the lawnmower and bicycles and was pulled up by my sister. It took a while before she was able to regain muscle movement in her limbs. As a part of the prevention of future relapses, I want to enroll her with a Personal Trainer. The recommended personal trainer with whom I want her to see works in Algonquin IL, a town very close to where she lives. Jonathan Turner, the personal trainer, has trained two patients to date who suffer from M.S. One woman he trains has been training with him for over two years now. She exclaimed to Jonathan that the exercise training she receives help her to stave off the attack on her immune system and keeps her nervous system in sync.

This expense is not even a possibility for Chris, but it is necessary to prevent further deterioration of her body. In so many of those who suffer from M.S. paralysis is on the horizon. This would allow her a chance to fight back against this disease that has no cure. Any donation you can would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just $1. I will be uploading images of the progress of my beard at the end of each week. Thank you very much for your time!
