Be an Angel for Laura

Thank you for visiting our page!

Our mother, Laura Tromborg, has developed Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) - which is a rare disease that used to be called pre-leukemia. Her MDS is a consequence of an aggressive form of chemotherapy and radiation treatment she underwent 3 years ago for Stage 3 uterine cancer. (This is very similar to what happened to Robin Roberts of ABC's Good Morning America).

Her particular MDS is quite severe and life threatening, and if left untreated will develop into a severe and aggressive form of leukemia.

Luckily, she is getting top notch care and her medical team is quite confident she will be cured. The treatment for MDS requires a Blood Stem Cell Transplant - and we're fortunate she has so many brothers and sisters willing to donate - with our Aunt Sandy Trotter as the closest donor match.  Laura will enter Stanford Medical Center hospital on Christmas Eve (Dec 24th) to begin the pre-conditioning to get her ready for the transplant. The actual transplant is currently scheduled for January 5th.

After the transplant, she will need to remain either in the hospital or remain close to the hospital (within minutes) for additional 100 days (approximately 3-1/2 months). Her primary caregiver will be her husband (and our wonderful step-father) Patrick Tromborg. He is planning to be by her side for every step on this ordeal, including being trained by Stanford's staff to specially prepare her meals (she will be on a very specific diet) and supervise her care. That means he will need to stay near the hospital for the duration of her treatment and, unfortunately, out of work.

Both our parents are members of the Fresno Unified teacher's union, and luckily have health insurance which is covering nearly all the costs of the medical treatment and hospital stay (including Sandy's).

However, health insurance can't cover everything - which means housing for Patrick, lost wages for 3+ months off work, and incidental expenses like food, gas, water, electricity not covered by insurance. Patrick and Laura have been working with a social worker at Stanford Medical Center, looking for the best and lowest cost options.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts this is not an expense we, their adult children, have the resources to shoulder exclusively. So we're asking for help from you, our fabulous and amazing friends and extended family, to find it within your hearts to keep our family together and our beloved mother able to focus on surviving.

Please consider giving any amount - every little bit - $10, $25, $50, $100, $500 or more will go a long way toward helping our family stay together toward this difficult time.

Thank you tremendously,
 - Chris, Amber and Justin
