Thor is a 2 1/2 year old rescue Dobie. He is my husband’s dream dog and we love him so much. We rescued Thor when he was only 5 to 6 months old from Aztec Doberman Rescue. We were his third family.
His first family didn't take very good care of him and when the rescue got him and his brother they were very malnourished and full of parasites. They got him back to healthy and his second family adopted him. For whatever reason they were not able to keep him long.
When we went to see about a different dog he was there at the rescue too. His personality was just what we were looking for. He was mild mannered and yet just as goofy as the rest of us.
We were scared after just a month with him as we thought he had Wobblers. He had already melted out hearts and had become such a huge part of our family. Thank goodness that was not the case. However, we didn't find out just how bad he has been. He was never correctly diagnosed. He must have an extremely high pain tolerance. Apparently Thor has been suffering for the past 2 years with hip dysplasia in both hips, one is worse than the other.
When we were on a walk he twisted his knee which tore ligaments under his knee cap and that is what brought us to the vet. The x-rays showed the hip dysplasia which we were not aware of till this point. We only knew that he walked funny but always had. I called around to get a second and then third opinion. They all came to the same conclusion that Thor would need a surgery; on not only his knee but his left hip as well. We were also told that with one comes two. Meaning if one side goes the other will follow in a few years.
He has been on bed rest for the past 2 weeks while we tried to come up with the funds for this surgery. We have found a vet that will do it for a much cheaper cost but we will be required to travel 12 hours to get him there. Which brings us to why we are asking for your help with getting Thor the medical treatment he needs. We are so grateful for any and all help we can get. Your willingness to help us is much appreciated. We cannot see our lives without him or see him suffer.
