Be the Change & Help END Housing Discrimination!

Imagine searching for a home—a place where you can feel safe, raise your children, and build your future—only to be turned away again and again. Not because of your financial situation, but because of who you are. Sadly, this is the reality for over a million racialized Canadians who live in poor housing conditions, and for far too many, discrimination makes finding suitable housing nearly impossible. In Toronto alone, more than a quarter (26%) of Black single parents have experienced discrimination when trying to find housing, according to the Canadian Centre for Human Rights’ (CCHR) 2009 report on discrimination in the city’s rental market. This report, still one of the most-cited resources on the subject, paints a disturbing picture of the barriers faced by racialized communities.
New data only deepens our understanding of this issue, revealing that discrimination is 267% more likely when callers to the housing market have a racialized accent. The situation is even more dire for racialized immigrant women with children, who face 563% greater discrimination than those who do not disclose their parental status. These numbers highlight the complex and compounding factors that make finding housing so difficult for racialized people in Canada.
This is where you come in. We are raising funds to build a powerful lobbying pool that will work tirelessly to inform and persuade government officials to take this matter more seriously. With your support, we can push for stronger laws and enforcement around housing discrimination, ensuring that all Canadians have access to fair and equitable housing opportunities.
We're on a $2,000,000 Mission to END Housing Discrimination in Canada!
