The ancient city of Tell el-Amarna, located 300km south of Cairo, is under permanent threat from modern building and agricultural activity. Alongside our ongoing excavations on behalf of the Amarna Project, we are replacing the stones removed after the abandonment of the city with small, local limestone blocks, topped with larger ones from the famous <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tora,_Egypt">Tura quarries</a> near Cairo, making the building outlines visible.
