Be part of Natalia’s refugee & educational journey

Valentina and I met Natalia this year through the Entrepreneurship Programme offered by Capacity in Zurich, where she currently participates. From the moment we met Natalia we were very impressed by her positive energy and drive. After knowing her better, learning about her dramatic start as a refugee in Switzerland and her passion for life and career goals, we confirmed her talent and commitment towards education and self-development and decided to help her reach her financial goals to Pay for her Master's degree in Art and Society at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).

Valentina and I both had people who sponsored us financially during our educational journey, and that took us to where we are today. It's time to give back and support Natalia to continue her journey and pursue her dream! So let's help her and DONATE NOW!

This is Natalia in her own words!

"My name is Natalia. I am a Colombian asylum seeker, filmmaker and activist for the rights of the victims of the Colombian armed conflict and the refugees in Switzerland. I am building my new life in Switzerland while doing a master's degree in Art & Society. To be able to complete the program, I need to ask for your support to cover the tuition expenses.

Let me first tell you about myself:

In 2016, the life of my family and mine took a dramatic turn. We had to flee Colombia and seek asylum in Switzerland on account of my family's human rights legal support to displaced families in my country.

My experience as an asylum seeker has been intense in every way.  I am still adjusting to a whole new way of living that has re-shaped my way of thinking and has also shown me the infinite opportunities one has to be the change.

Since my first stay in refugee shelters until today, I have been passionately promoting cultural exchanges, programs and spaces where dialogue and diversity take place, such as cinema clubs, artistic forums and ateliers, language-cafes, among others, where asylum seekers, students and citizens gather together towards the same goal: to gain a better understating of each other's situation.

I found out about the new Master of Advanced Studies in ART & SOCIETY of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and knew immediately that it was ideal for me. This programme offers a unique opportunity to work with art in social transformation processes which I am passionate about.

Although I was given a chance to start the programme thanks to the great support of the university,  paying for my studies has been very difficult because of my migratory status, an asylum seeker, which restricts the opportunities to work and find a job.

I have been engaged in this academic programme since January 2018 and have been looking for all kinds of scholarships or support but have not managed to found the full amount to pay for the courses I have already taken and for the upcoming ones.

This year, a professor arranged a scholarship through the collective Foa-flux, and they covered 3 of my courses. I am grateful to see how people around me have done everything they could to get me going.

Your financial support to pay towards this Master's program would contribute infinitely to my self-integration process and towards my personal, intellectual and academic growth while being in a positive environment where I feel safe, productive and challenged.

In addition to the Master's program, I am currently part of Architecture for Refugees Schweiz, where I deliver inclusive workshops about photography and video. I am also developing my own start-up through Capacity: POWER THE PEOPLE  - alternative city tours led by refugees for all. Also,  because of my artistic work and refugee background, I was commissioned by the UNCHR to design a poster honouring refugee women for the exhibition ART STANDS WITH REFUGEES ,  taking place in Art Basel until 20 June 2019.

You can see more of my artistic and social work in my website:

By supporting me, you will not only help me to achieve my educational goals, but you will also become actors of change who contribute to building more inclusive societies.

Here more detailed information about the MAS Art & Society  and where I stand.

The entire MAS Art & Society course with 60 (E)CTS costs 26'700 CHF .

The Foa-Flux scholarship was 3,000 CHF and covered 6 (E)CTS.  I have 23,700CHF to go. If I have the money, I will take more courses and graduate faster. I hope to be able to complete the MAS in the next two years.

In this campaign, we are aiming to collect 10,000 CHF in 2 months. We are also open to receiving further contributions to cover the entire cost of the program.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
