<div>Kenny is a 16-year-old living in Dalton, Ga and is currently a sophomore attending Dalton High School.

<div>Ever since Kenny was six years old, he started playing in the soccer leagues at Saint Joseph Church. He would later come to play at his middle school and high school soccer teams as a wing or middle fielder. Over the years, he became a talented and phenomenal player who his teammates described as charismatic and driven.
</div>

</div>
<div>About a year ago, he started complaining of calf pain when playing, which he got treated for by going to physical therapy (PT). Even with PT, his pain continued preventing him from playing soccer for a year.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On March 11, Kenny experienced intense pain in his toes, so the pediatrician sent him to the emergency room at Hamilton Medical Center. From there, he was transported to Erlanger Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga for further evaluation and possible emergency surgery. The doctors performed several arteriograms that led to them finding his whole right leg full of chronic clots. He was later diagnosed with Popliteal Entrapment Syndrome, which is very rare and usually found in young healthy athletes. This happens when the muscles behind the knee compress the arteries and prevent good blood flow to the foot. With time, the arteries get more damaged and prevent any blood from reaching the foot. In Kenny’s case, the clots were present for a long time causing irreversible damage to his arteries. After 5 procedures and 3 major surgeries, Kenny’s foot showed no improvement. The surgeons at Erlanger had no other treatments for Kenny’s condition. After a long and hard discussion, Kenny and his parents decided to keep fighting and exhaust every possible option which was transferring him to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN.

<div>On March 30, Kenny arrived at Vanderbilt and was admitted to the PICU. Although further treatment options were unclear, the doctors hoped with medication and rest, the blood flow to his foot would improve.

<div>Despite being on medications and bedrest, his toes got worse while also experiencing fevers and abnormal lab values. On April 9th, the surgeons decided to perform a below-knee amputation to prevent any sepsis from spreading. Thankfully with amazing nurses, doctors, and supporting staff, they’ve helped Kenny make this new transition in his life.

<div>Kenny es un adolescente de la edad de 16 años que vive en Dalton, Ga. El está actualmente cursando el décimo año en dalton high school.

<div>Desde la edad de 6 años empezó a jugar en las ligas de futbol de la iglesia San José. Años después siguió jugando para la middle school y high school jugando las posiciones por la banda y mediocampista. Pasando los años, se hizo un jugador muy carismatico e impulsado.

<div>Hace como un año, empezó a quejarse de un dolor en el chamorro que eso fue tratado con terapias. Aún así con las terapias, él seguía con su dolor y esa fue la causa por la que durante un año no pudo jugar futbol.
</div>

<div>El 11 de Marzo, kenny amanesio con un dolor intenso en sus dedos del pie. Fue a que lo checaran al pediatra y de ahí lo mandaron a emergencias del hospital de Dalton y luego de ahí fue transportado al hospital del Erlanger en Chattanooga, TN. Los especialistas hicieron varios arteriogramas donde el resultado fue que encontraron varios cuogulos en su pie derecho. Él estaba diagnosticado con síndrome de atrapamiento popliteo, ese caso es raro y casi siempre se da en los jóvenes atléticos. Eso pasa cuando los músculos atrás de la rodilla presionan las arterias y no deja que la sangre circule. Asia la parte del pie con el tiempo las arterias se dañaron mas y la sangre ya no circuló para el pie. En el caso de Kenny, los cuagulos ya estaban ahí por un tiempo causando daño irreversible a sus arterias. Después de 5 procedimientos y 3 cirugías grandes, el pie de kenny no tuvo mejoría. Los cirujanos de Erlanger dijieron que ya no había más tratamientos para la condiccion de Kenny. Despues de llegar a un acuerdo, la familia de Kenny decidió luchar y agotar todas las posibilidades para mejorar su situación. Fue cuando dieron la opcion de transferir a Kenny a Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital en Nashville, TN.

<div>El 30 de Marzo, Kenny llegó al hospital de Vanderbilt donde fue aceptado a PICU. Aunque no tenían más opciones de tratamientos, los doctores tenían la esperanza que con la medicina y un poco de descanso su sangre empezara a circular teniendo mas flujo.
</div>

<div>A pesar de la medicina y el descanso, sus dedos no le respondieron y eso causó fiebres y resultados anormales de laboratorio. El 9 de Abril, los cirujanos decidieron hacerle una cirugía donde tuvieron que amputar parte de su pie justo abajo de su rodilla que ya no respondió y evitar una septicemia. Queremos darle gracias a Dios, alas enfermeras y los cirujanos por estar con nosotros en estos tiempos dificiles. Que an estado ayudando a Kenny asiendo este proceso lo mas facil posible.
