Theatre of NOTE needs your help!

We have until October 15th ro reach our goal of $25,000 for the theatre.

Theatre of NOTE’s mission statement reads, “Theatre of NOTE is a democratic ensemble of L.A. theatre artists dedicated to creating high-caliber, original work that challenges both its ensemble and audiences.”

And we are asking for your support to help us to continue our mission.

THE STORY:

For more than 40 years, Theatre of NOTE has served the Los Angeles theatre community by presenting bold, innovative, and timely work. And we plan to keep at it.

However, just like many theatres, the COVID-19 pandemic took a heavy economic toll on us. Additionally, a vendor we worked with for our recent production of Nimrod has failed to pay over $13k that we earned in ticket sales and has become unresponsive.

Suffice it to say, we’re on shaky ground…

But we’re not giving up.

WHERE WE ARE NOW:

A few months back, we launched this fundraiser to help keep NOTE alive and thriving. And so many generous patrons stepped up to get us to the halfway mark.

Then, the producers of our latest production, the world premiere of Ashley Rose Wellman’s Kill Shelter, made the strategic decision to launch a show specific fundraiser for the show. So in an effort to allow people to channel their donations directly to the show, we decided to suspend the current fundraiser so that the team could have the support that they needed to realize their visions for the piece.

Kill Shelter is now open and is receiving not only heartfelt praise from all of its audiences but is also seeing an incredible response in the Los Angeles critics community. The show is as successful as it is due to the efforts of the cast and crew but also because Los Angeles theatre patrons stepped up with their financial support to help us make it happen.

WHAT’S THE MONEY FOR:

In order to continue to produce work like this, we once again are launching our fundraiser to take us across the finish line for our fundraising goals for the year. $25,000 is the projected amount needed to supplement yearly operating costs and help fund future shows.

The COVID Pandemic was a huge financial challenge for all of us in the theatre arts community. As with many performing arts organizations, we were unable to continue in-person events such as our mainstage productions, our high school theatre outreach program: Young Writer’s Project, and our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Hollywood Performance Marathon.

We made our triumphant return to our theatrical home at 1517 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in 2022 with our productions of Clownfish and Nimrod, and as this latest production is coming to a close, we are looking to keep that momentum going by raising $25,000 to fund a good portion of our upcoming 2023-2024 season including two World Premiere plays, Kill Shelter by Ashley Rose Wellman, and The AllStore by Evan Marshall.

NOTE has been around for over 40 YEARS and there was never any doubt we would make it through, but we have largely taken a break from fundraising since 2019. And without our normal fundraisers in effect we now find ourselves needing your help more than ever.

We settled on $25,000 as our first goal after careful examination of our past expenses and with an eye towards inflation of raw materials and operating costs, and we are confident that if we can raise this amount we will have laid a strong immediate foundation to continue to create new, bold, inclusive and socially relevant theatre for LA!
