<div>My group (<strong>Facebook.com/groups/dogsforadoptioncanada</strong>) was started to support these rescues &amp; has grown to 59,000 members in just over 5 years.

<div>Many years ago I was approached by Lisa, one of Sula’s founders, to help getting the dogs they had rescued into loving homes in Canada. This was before the Sula shelter was opened in November 2020. Since that day, Sula has worked tireless to help the dogs in need in Mexico. The shelter currently has over 300 dogs. Sula goes above and beyond to aid the dogs that so many turn away, the dogs that have no voice and have survived untold atrocities at the hands of humans.

<div>I recently went out to the shelter in Mexico to carry out behavioural assessments for the dogs. It is astounding how much love, dedication and care is given to the dogs 24/7. Sula has no government, corporate or any other funding and relies purely on the donations of kind hearted individuals who understand that dogs should not have to suffer in such horrific circumstances.

<div>There is a misconception that vet care in Mexico is very very cheap. Although cheaper than Canada, with so many dogs that need extensive medical care, including those that will never be adopted, the bills really add up. Unfortunately, the adoption fees of the lucky ones that do find their forever homes do not make a dent in the costs of the medical treatment that many of the dogs need. The current medical bill stands at the Go Fund amount of $23,600 CAD.

<div>So many of the dogs that are at the shelter, whether it is due to age, behaviour or disability, are never going to have the luxury of finding their forever homes and will remain in the care of Sula for the rest of their lives. Please note this is just the medical bills and not the cost of food, rent, transportation and everything else that needs to go into running a shelter and caring for so many dogs.

<div>When we are notified about a dog that has been run over, we do not have the luxury to wait and see if there are going to be people who are going to step up and support that dog financially. It literally is a case of life and death, so we have to step up and hope that our supporters are going to help in the future.
</div>

<div>Hutch: 13810 Pesos / <strong>$1066.37</strong> Hutch needed his leg amputated after being run over

<div>Eddie: 11690 Pesos / <strong>$902.67</strong> Eddie needed his infected leg (hanging by the bone) amputated

<div>Zelda: 12980 Pesos / <strong>$995.33</strong> Had a huge tumour with her for at least 3 years removed weighing 2.75kg!

<div>Toby: 24400 Pesos /<strong> $1886.97</strong> Was run over and needed amputation after the surgery to save his leg failed.

<div>To date Sula has saved and found loving, forever homes for <strong>548</strong> dogs in Canada the US and Mexico since opening the shelter in November 2020.
