I am raising money for children that were diagnosed with MPS 1. MPS stands for Mucopolysaccharidosis, and it is a genetic disorder. Children with MPS 1 have a mutation in the gene and cannot produce an enzyme called alpha-L-iduronidase. This means, they can produce little to no enzymes. Children with MPS 1 need a BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) to produce enzymes to give them a better quality of life. When my brother was 17 weeks old, he was diagnosed with MPS 1. On September 8, 2006, I was my brother's bone marrow donor. His courage inspired me to do something I am very passionate about, which is to reach out and tell others about MPS. I realized that my brother is the best gift God has given me, and I want to help other families feel the same way about their children. I am fundraising for families that have kids with MPS 1 that cannot afford the BMT. The cost for a BMT is very expensive, so sadly some kids have passed.
