Help Lizzy Move to Uganda

The summer after my freshman year of high school the Lord gave me a specific and simple task- graduate a year early so that He could use that year for His purposes. I had no idea how He was going to do it, but He had already done it by arranging my classes strategically since middle school, almost making it seem like I had been planning all along to walk the stage with the class of 2014. Now it's the end of June, I'm getting ready to register for some college classes, thinking this what the Lord has in mind, when He reveals to me exactly what He wants me to do- go live in Uganda, interning with Village of Hope for 3 months.

Village of Hope Uganda is a non-profit organization dedicated to counseling, loving, educating, and sharing the love of The Father to those children affected by Joseph Kony and the LRA. This ministry will go into the IDP, or internally displaced persons, camps and rescues these orphans from poverty "to help the helpless in Africa, to bring safety to children who don't have safety, to provide shelter to the homeless and food to the hungry." These children had once been child soldiers and/or sex slaves, abducted by the LRA and forced to do horrific things beyond our imagination; however, because of Village of Hope, many are learning just how loved they are by the Father and that people do indeed care about them.

As an intern, I would be mirroring a pediatric nurse practioner, another intern that will be there the exact amount of time I will be there. This is so amazing because her occupation is exactly what I want to major in so I will get first hand experience in the heart of Africa right before I go off to college. Along with just loving on these kids, I will be teaching music lessons in the village. The arts are such an essential part of Acholi culture and many of the kids engage in music therapy to help in their healing process.

I am incredibly humbled and excited for this adventure He has called me to embark on. No question- this is not going to be an easy experience for many reasons but I'm stepping out in faith and am believing God to provide, equip, and strengthen me. Will join me in making an impact in the lives of these precious children?
