My name is Olia, and I am a mother of two wonderful children, aged 7 and 8. We have been through so much together, escaping an emotionally abusive relationship and trying to rebuild our lives. But right now, we are struggling to survive.

I am drowning in £28,000 of debt from medical, credit card, school etc. I have made arrangements with some and pay them a small amount each month but I have not been able to make arrangements with all of them and all because of a mistake I did not even make. When I went to the Citizens Advice Bureau for help they told me to stop all payments or they would not be able to help me. The adviser was wrong and he no longer works there. Because of this misinformation my case was taken to court and I am now in dire need of £3000. Now the bailiffs are constantly pressuring me for money I do not have.

On top of this, I need to renew my visa, which means hiring a lawyer—just that alone costs £4,000. If I can’t do this, I could lose my right to stay and work, making things even worse for my children. One of my daughters is currently going through an autism assessment, and I have ADHD, which makes it incredibly hard to focus and manage everything.

Despite all of this, I am still working as a chef, doing everything I can to provide for my children. I dream of one day opening my own business, but right now, we are living without heating, in extreme poverty, just trying to make it through each day.
