The Songs That Plants Sing

Donation protected
The intention of this campaign is to fund my travels to Peru to continue my studies of traditional plant medicine with one of my teachers, Maestra Justina Cerrano. Justina and her family are dedicated to the preservation and evolution of traditional plant medicine and healing techniques of their cultural lineage. During my visit, Maestra Justina will teach me about the Shipibo worldview, their language, and the use of plant medicines and song for the treatment of illness and disease.

Contributions to this campaign will receive various gifts, such as hand-made crafts and textiles made locally by Shipibo women. Shipibo textiles and beadwork are famous for their geometric complexity and colors. Each Shipibo textile has a significant meaning to the weaver. Commonly, the patterns represent a song (like sheet music for a piano player), and the weaver can sing that song while tracing their finger along the lines of the textile! The artwork will come with a description of its significance as it is is described by the artist.

Social networking is critical to the success of this project. Every donation matters! If you personally cannot make a financial contribution at this time, fret not! You can do your part by sharing this project with your community via the GoFundMe sharing tools, Facebook, your own blog, or whatever social platform is available to you. Heck, you can even call someone to tell them about this wonderful project! Any support you can offer is met with my upmost gratitude.

If you would like to learn more about folk-medicine in the Peruvian Amazon, or if you have any questions, you can visit my blog at: http://medicineloom.wordpress.com , where I have written essays and articles on the various elements of traditional medicine amongst the Shipibo and other cultures of the Upper Amazon basin. This will also be a great way to follow me during my travels.

Irake Ichabiras! (Shipibo for "thank you very much!")
