Trained as an addiction counsellor, I spent almost 20 years working in a centre for persons with physical disabilities, mental illness and behavioural difficulties. I also spent 15 years in the volunteer fire service. Each have taken a serious toll on my mental health.
Unable to work and on WCB for my PTSD, I have committed my story to, not only this book, The Road To Mental Wellness but also, I have a blog; find it here: The Road To Mental Wellness. The mission is to help others by telling my own story. I am hopeful that my work will help others see that they are not alone in their battle with mental illness. I also hope that it will resonate with people enough to overcome the fear of stigma, so they can get the help they need.
I describe myself as a life long helper who is trying to turn my long battle with mental illness into source of strength for others. Its what gets me out of bed in the morning.
Because I am on Worker's compensation I lack the funding to get my book done and onto book store shelves. So, I am turning to you for your help. The biggest expenses will be the editing and publisher.
What's so exciting about this project is that it has the real potential to help others; the sample readers I have worked with are excited about the book and feel as though it will help others. It also looks promising from the perspective of a few publishers.
So, not only will you be helping me realize my dream of being a writer, your contribution my help others. We all know someone directly or are touched by mental illness and some way; we can make a difference if we work together.
Thank you so much for your contribution, it means so much to me.
