BCC Summer Reading Program 2018

We are now raising funds for the 2018 summer. Please help us complete our fundraising goal.

We intentionally promote literacy to help bridge the Education Gap.

Thank you for stopping by our page to learn more about our free 5 week one-on-one tutoring program that has been serving the youth of the Slavic Village Area of Cleveland for the past 40 years.

The Broadway Christian Church Summer Reading Program is a non-profit program which relies on grants, donations and fundraisers to be able to provide its services free of charge to the families it serves.

It costs about $17,000 to run the Summer Reading Program each summer.

The cost of providing 5 weeks of one-on-one tutoring is about $300 per child for the summer.

In order to provide these services free of charge we need to raise around $10,000. This will allow us to serve 36 students.

These funds allow us to provide stipends to 12 teens to work as tutors in our program. We also hire 5 additional teens to work in the Computer Lab and Art Room.

The remainder of the money needed provides nominal stipends to our staff of professionals including a Title 1 Teacher, Reading Intervention Specialist and certified Elementary Education Teacher.

In addition the funds pay for consumable supplies needed during the program and school supplies given to each student at the end of the program.

With a legacy of 40 years, the Broadway Christian Church Summer Reading Program seeks to close the education gap by providing FREE one-on-one tutoring during the summer for students who are academically at-risk in or near the Slavic Village area of Cleveland.

The Mission of the Broadway Christian Church Summer Reading Program is to provide individualized lessons, to at risk students in the community and to provide the teens of the community with opportunities to experience the work force, in a positive way as hired tutors.

For over three decades the Broadway Christian Church Summer Reading Program has been helping Cleveland area children improve their literacy, while providing valuable employment skills to the tutors, the program hires. The program runs for 5 weeks each summer for children in grades 1 through 6. The children served are refered to as "Intentional Scholars" because the time spent with them to increase their skills is nothing short of intentional. By contacting the schools prior to the program beginning, the team of educators on staff are able to create daily individualized lesson plans which address the specific needs of each scholar. Imagine 5 weeks of one-on-one tutoring to solely meet the needs of your child. Add to that the fact that it is free of charge and that they will also have access to a computer lab to strengthen their skills, and Art classes, and you can understand why the Summer Reading Program is indeed intentional!
