The Woman
Mz. Imani is a force of nature and she has touched us with her music, drumming and words. Through various conferences and gatherings, we have received the gift of her hands on the drum or handpan and her voice resonating in our hearts. She co-creates and holds sacred space for us, while we are in our times of need and she has helped us get to the other side of whatever we are going through. We are all blessed by her generosity of spirit as she uses her gifts to pray, sing and “bring things round right” during circles and ceremony all year. In this moment our sister is in need of the gifts of our generosity.
The Story
On Saturday, April 6, 2019, Imani lost her home to a devastating fire, and the inherent water and smoke damage to put out such a fire. We are blessed that she (and her assistant, Courtney) was unharmed, and not present at the start of the fire, yet her beloved cat, Yoda, did not make it out. Imani has been so graceful through the shock of losing everything. She left her home at 5:13 pm, and Courtney left at 5:30 pm. At 6:06 Imani received the call that her house was on fire. She was playing handpan in the Chamber. She arrived at her house before the fire trucks did and at 6:10 she took this picture:
The Needs
She has been surrounded by some really dear folks and has found great comfort staying on the mountain. She is staying with friends, and in retreat in her cave of the sound chamber. There are parts of her home that have been consumed by fire, and parts that have been consumed by smoke, water, insulation and debris. It is an intensely big mess, and for all practical purposes, it is a total loss. Initially it appeared as though she had lost everything. Although she is finding that there are items that can be saved/restored, her house needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt.
While that work is happening at the bottom of the hill, she needs a secure place to stay on the top of the hill. Please help us raise money to assist her in getting a camper or tiny house so she can stay on the mountain, where she feels called to be. All funds donated will go towards helping Imani get settled in a secure place to live while insurance processes her claim. Any funds raised above and beyond what is needed for housing will go directly towards taking care of Imani's basic personal needs during this transition.
