My name is Darci, my husband Jerry and I are asking for help, covering costs of our son's recovery from addiction and homelessness for the last 5 years.
Right now, our son is safe, living indoors, and receiving recovery treatment. We are over the moon with joy and relief! Over the last year, he has made remarkable gains transitioning back into sober clean living and we are so proud of him!
Time leading up to this was a struggle, for all of us, during which, he survived unhoused continuously, for 4 years straight. After not hearing from him for 3 months, when we were in the habit of hearing from him daily, we began a thorough search. Thankfully, missing posters we had distributed around the city led to us finding him. It also led us to the understanding that we might not win this battle, so we came up with a plan. We held on tighter. Every time we saw him we filled him up with as much love as he could hold.
It was heartbreaking but healing too, as I began to represent "moms" for many of his friends out there.
Jerry and I have been public school teachers here in the Pacific NW for the last 2 decades. This tells you a few things about our financial status and our personal characters, which are:
- We cannot afford a private treatment center.
- Deep down all we want to do is help others.
- We have seen firsthand what happens to young people, if they don’t receive the support they need.
- We are hard workers.
Our son is not dissimilar, he has always been curious and is a kind and generous person. He has an infectious laugh and smiling eyes. In fact, people we met out while searching for him, told us he would share his food with their dog or was "there for them when they needed a shoulder".
With gratitude, we were encouraged to fight further, just as my 77 yr old sober mama taught me, and so, "God willing and the creek don't rise", we'll make it! We are so grateful for the year-long commitment our son has made to this recovery treatment program. We love you buddy and believe in you!
Thank you for reading!
-We are posting only pictures of our son at young ages to protect his anonymity at this critical time in his recovery journey-
