Bay Area UndocuAPI Mutual Aid Fund

While the government has offered stimulus checks and unemployment benefits to millions of people impacted by COVID-19, these benefits only scratch the surface of our communities' needs.

Undocumented communities have been excluded from government relief altogether, in the same way they’ve always been barred from basic resources like health insurance, paid sick leave, and unemployment benefits.

Within grassroots efforts to fill in the gaps, undocumented Asians and Pacific Islanders are often overlooked due to a lack of visibility and political organization. Elders in our community especially struggle to find the support they need.

In response, we created a mutual aid fund to make sure undocuAPI elders in our community have enough resources to make it through these difficult times.

We're a small group of API friends in the Bay Area organizing to support three of our undocuAPI loved ones and their families who've been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Inspired by blossoming models of mutual aid, we’re striving to provide relief for some of our community members who are uniquely at risk of economic abandonment.

While this moment poses many new challenges, it also presents us with new opportunities to mobilize resources for the most vulnerable members of our communities. Will you join us in uplifting our loved ones in need?

We’ve all experienced challenging circumstances due to the covid-19 pandemic. But for those who are blessed to maintain financial stability during these uncertain times, you may find yourself better positioned than ever to support communities facing hardship.

Here’s a guide to evaluating if you’re able to support:
- Do you have stable and adequate housing and employment?
- Are you saving money that you normally spend on commuting, dining, going out, etc?
- Are you able to rely on family members for financial assistance?
- Are you receiving a stimulus check but don’t need it to cover any basic needs?
- Are you ineligible for a stimulus check due to your income level?

If you’ve answered yes to more than one of the above, will you consider donating to our mutual aid fund? 100% of your donation will go to the families in this campaign, helping to cover rent, utilities, and other essential expenses like groceries, household supplies, and medical bills.

Our fundraising goal accounts for three months of expenses for the three families in our campaign. If we exceed our fundraising goal, we promise to donate the extra funds to at least one other undocuAPI family, either directly or through a similar mutual aid fund. Check back for updates about how your donations are benefiting the families in this campaign!

Regardless of your ability to donate, we invite you to share this ask with at least 3 people in your community. You can use it as a way to initiate crucial conversations with your loved ones about the importance of redistribution and mutual aid.

Thank you so much for your support!
