Bay Area Teacher Needs Temporary Help With Rent

My dear friend, a 22-year veteran kindergarten teacher, supporting herself on a teacher’s salary in the Bay Area, changed jobs mid-school year this year. During this 2-month gap in health insurance coverage, some out-of-pocket healthcare costs used up her small financial cushion. Her new full-time job started in December,  but teachers’ paychecks arrive only once per month -- at the very end of the month. She won’t receive her first full month of salary until January 31. Despite her best efforts, she is behind on December’s rent and won’t have January’s in time. Having an eviction on her record would be devastating to finding a new apartment in the Bay Area, even once her paychecks are rolling in steadily. 

I always hope my holiday giving will have a real and meaningful effect. I know this donation will do just that. $5,000 will cover December and January rent. So, rather than searching for a storage unit, a home for her cat, and a friend’s couch this Christmas, Sarah can instead plan her lessons as she begins this new chapter, at a new school, and puts this difficult year behind her.
