A young man “John” in my community has had a rough life. According to John, his mom has mental health issues and everyday was verbally, mentally and physically abusive to his dad, his brothers and himself. Often she would leave home and there was no food in the house for the family to eat. His dad was the only positive influence in his life, but he was always gone from the home because he worked 2 jobs so that he could support his family. In July, 2013 his dad was diagnosed with brain cancer and after complications from experimental surgery he died in August, 2013.  While John had worked over the past 2 years to help support his family, his dad had told him that he would need to take on even more responsibility with paying the family’s bills, since he could no longer work his 2 jobs.

After his dad died, his mom abandoned her family and left “John” alone to take care of himself, his older brother and the family home. John bought his brother a plane ticket so that he could move with his father’s family to a healthier environment.

John was a senior in high school, and had to take care of his house while keeping his grades up, running track and working to pay his bills. He enrolled in college and completed his own application, tax returns, and FAFSA forms (Anyone who has completed those knows that by itself is amazing!). With financial aid that he will be getting, he is still $4000 short for his freshman year. NEVER does he complain, draw attention to himself or question his life situation. If anything, it has made him more determined to be very successful in life. Please consider helping “John” meet his goal to go to college and achieve his life’s dream. Imagine this is your son…wouldn’t you want others to reach out to help him? Please consider donating $100, $50, $20 or even $10 to help him. Any amount will help! Thank you and God Bless you for considering a donation.
