#BattleForBoo To Beat Cancer

Donation protected
The man and the cause:
My stepdad Hezekiah Spinner, known to his friends as Boo, is battling Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a blood cancer that if not successfully treated advances to Acute Leukemia.

Boo is a kind, loving and compassionate family man who lives with his wife Patti in Clifton Forge, VA.  Their love for one another and their unwavering faith in God has given them the strength to fight this battle thus far. Please join Boo and Patti as they continue this path to recovery!

The Diagnosis:
May of 2016 Boo went to the doctor with back pain.  The doctors ordered routine blood work and the results showed an abnormal blood count.  More tests revealed a continued drop in white blood cells, confirming their worst fear, cancer.  Boo was referred to an Oncologist at UVA and was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.  This news was devastating, but the specialists offered them hope when they were told that Boo qualified for a new clinical trial.

Since September of 2016 Boo and Patti have been making the 99-mile trek from their home in Clifton Forge, VA to Charlottesville, VA once a month for an intensive seven-day clinical trial Chemotherapy regime.  Boo hasn't been able to work since June of 2016 and Patti, his wife and primary caretaker, has had to take an unpaid leave of absence from work. Their savings has been depleted and they have been relying on credit cards to make ends meet.

Unfortunately, the clinical trial was not successful and his numbers have been steadily declining.  Now, their only hope, is a $200,000 stem cell transplant.  Without this transplant he will develop Acute Leukemia.

The Transplant:
The stem cell transplant is scheduled for February 22nd. This will require a 4-5-week hospital stay. He will need to stay within 20 minutes of the hospital following surgery which will require an 8 week stay in a hotel.

The Costs:
Thankfully insurance is covering 80% of the $200,000 procedure; however, they will still be responsible for the $40,000 not covered and have already accrued $20,000 of medical expenses. Additional expenses include food, gas, and boarding for their furry family members. Boo and Patti were in a car accident in November on their way to treatment. Miraculously they were both uninjured, but their only car was totaled. They had to purchase a used vehicle and now have that as an added cost as well.

How you can help:
To help us get the word out please share this to your Facebook and other social media platforms. If you are able, please help Boo and Patti with their mounting medical expenses by contributing to this fund. Most importantly, your prayers and support through this most difficult time are always welcomed!
