Team Battleborn is:
PHILIP CAVANAGH (Dublin, Ireland),
BARRY HAYES (England - living in Wrexham, North Wales),
DARREN ‘BILLY’ TAYLOR (Oxford, England) and
DAN KIERATH (Perth, Western Australia).
They have embarked on the challenge of a lifetime, Rowing The Pacific. Starting in California, they will row in shift patterns of two hours on two hours off until they reach Hawaii, a distance of over 2100 nautical miles. This is the very first Great Pacific Race - no crew of four has ever attempted to row the Pacific, no Irishman has ever attempted to row the Pacific. World Records are up for grabs - and Battleborn want them.
The ocean rowing boat will contain everything they need for the trip, ranging from vacuum packed dry food, a water maker, navigation equipment, and daily karaoke sessions (courtesy of Philip!) The team will also be able to update their blogs and post videos and photos to their website, keeping you up to date on their progress.
The preparation and execution of the voyage will cost in the region of £90,000. Some of this has been raised by sponsorship - but there is a shortfall and we need your help. Once that figure is covered we will share donate any addition funds to our four charities - two based in Ireland and two in the UK. They are:
Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind
Spotlight YOPD in association with The Cure Parkinson's Trust
Help For Heroes
