In Need Of a Double Bass Companion

My name is Mariechen Meyer and I am in need of a double bass. I've been a student of music for nearly twenty years now, and a double bassist for seventeen of them. After my undergraduate studies in South Africa I had to make a decision based on financial circumstances to either further my studies abroad or buying an instrument, and consequently I decided to go study abroad. As an international student studying in America my earning potential is limited, and barely covers my living costs, which is why I can't afford to buy my own instrument yet. Now as I get closer to the end of my doctoral studies in double bass performance, my long-term study goals turn from a distant focal point to the all too present crossroads that embody the inevitable choices I will have to make in order to forge a successful career in music, and the fact that I don't have my own instrument yet, weighs heavily upon my options. To obtain a bass at this stage of my career would allow me to fulfill specific short- and long-term goals:

Short-term Goals
-Auditions for full-time professional chamber orchestras.
-Compete in instrumental competitions.
-Build a double bass studio
-Establish chamber music academy for strings in SA

Long-term Goals
-Afri-Bass Project: the mission of the Afri-bass project is to transform and enrich the perception of double bass playing in developing countries, specifically in Africa. It consists of several facets such as the exposure and development of the double bass in Africa by means of a tour, starting in South Africa and continuing to Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria. The tour schedule will consist of recital performances, master classes and workshops at various universities, colleges and pre-college schools.
-Establish annual double bass festival/symposium.
-Recording a Solo Double Bass Album: to record an album with my own compositions and arrangements has been on my bucket list for the past two years. I hope to carry out this project in the near future after the acquisition of a fine instrument.
