Basil was being fed as a stray by an elderly couple and one night it was so cold he finally was brave enough to come into the house. Once inside they trapped him and called us to help as he was in a poorly state. His mouth was very sore and he was struggling to eat, he was underweight, and he was unneutered and not chipped. His ears were filthy and infected and he had fleas.

Despite all his issues he was pleased to be inside and given food and he quickly became very loving. He’d clearly been a pet at some point.

Our vet said most of his teeth were in such a bad state they were like brown chalk, his gums were a mess, and his ears needed treatment. So we neutered him and did a dental which took a long time as the teeth kept breaking off. We also blood tested him and although his bloods came back normal he was sadly positive for FIV.

He’s now recovering in a foster home and feeling much better, although the mouth is taking a long time to heal and he is on a lot of pain meds for the time being.

We don’t want to give up on him as he’s such a lovely cat who has been through so much.

We do need to fund his ongoing treatment and we’re asking for donations towards his vet care.
