Barry's road to recovery

Donation protected
For anyone fortunate enough to know Barry Caravan, they would know he is the most selfless person out there. He would do anything for his family, friends, lake community, tenants, NEHSA friends and just about anybody he would meet. Barry's kind hearted nature can't be matched. He's loved by so many people and doesn't even realize his impact.
On Tuesday September 18 while doing back to back favors for his children, Barry was experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath. Newport health center determined he was having a series of heart attacks and was then transferred to New London hospital who then transferred him to Portsmouth regional hospital. In the emergency room he was trying to be strong for his children saying the pain was about a 4 and comparing it to bad heart burn. It quickly turned into a 10.5 pain level and he was rushed to the Cath Lab. There, they placed a stent to his right coronary artery clearing a blockage. At that time they also found unrepairable damage to the mitral valve. Because of heart failure the lungs sustained significant damage. Life saving measures were initiated placing Barry in a medically induced coma. Barry would require open heart surgery to replace the mitral valve but needed to remain on life support until his body was strong enough to take on surgery. On September 20th they successfully replaced the valve improving heart function but still required major life supporting measures. Since this time Barry has made small steps forward. Per his surgeon, his heart is functioning well but the lungs remain a major concern. The team at Portsmouth regional hospital has been amazing and have done everything they can. At this point the specialists have decided further equipment may be needed that is not on site. On Saturday September 22 Barry was airlifted to Brigham and Women's in Boston to continue his care. He continues to be on life support with a strong heart but lungs remain a concern. Recovery will be long term. Medical costs are unknown and will be extensive. Please help support a man who would give you the shirt off his back.
