Berrios House Fire

Early on the morning of August 13, 2018, Chicos and Nina Berrios woke to the sound of a smoke detector and smell of smoke.  They were able to rescue their four children from their rented town home, but lost their belongings and home to a kitchen fire.  There was a severe storm that knocked out electricity in the area the afternoon prior while they were not home and the fire started when the electricity was restored around 3:00AM.

The Berrios had switched insurance companies the week before and had not yet finished their renters insurance policy, so they are without any assistance for replacing their belongings.  The community has helped with many immediate needs of clothes and toys for the children, but there will be more extensive monetary needs as they rebuild their lives.

In speaking with them, they emphasize that they just want to make sure that their four children (and one on the way) have their needs met.  This family does not like asking for help as they always say "there is someone else who needs it more than us", but today they concede that they do need help.  

They are currently staying in a local hotel and are looking for a new place to rent.  The most urgent financial need is assistance with a security deposit and first months rent for a new place to live.  After getting to a new place they will need to replace all of their belongings as the things that did not burn had severe smoke and water damage.  They appreciate any amount of help that you are able to give and are so grateful for the community that is rallying around them.
