Barrett Adoption Story

Love has no limits and no borders. Thank you for taking the time to read about our fundraiser. Today we are fundraising for $49,000. This may seem like a huge ask but once you read our plea for help you will understand. We are looking to raise the funds for the privilege and incredible opportunity to adopt several young girls from a Ukrainian orphanage.  Recently we were given the chance to host several young ladies through an arrangement created by our Pastors wife. We were presented with the opportunity to host the girls for a weekend to give the full-time volunteers a break. Hosting so many children can be a big task for some, not to mention the cost for food, clothing, and other necessities. Without hesitation, my wife and I jumped at the chance to host these wonderful girls.

These young girls have only known poverty, starvation, sadness, and loneliness. These girls crave love and attention just like any child does. While the girls were here in the United States they underwent some dental treatments. One of the girls had to undergo over 8 hours of dental procedures to help repair the decay and abscesses that she was suffering from. Ukrainian orphanages do not have the funding or resources to offer proper or even basic care for the children that live with them.

As we hosted these amazing young ladies we did not prepare ourselves for the heartbreak that was to come once we and the girls realized that they were about to be sent back to Ukraine, back to miserable and depressing conditions that you would not want any child to experience. To help you understand what these young girls would be going back to please check out some of these facts provided by roadsofhope.org :

- Only 300 children had been adopted internationally in 2017
- 60% of the orphaned girls are trafficked
- 12% commit suicide
- 50% of the children die before their 21st birthday.

These stats are almost incomprehensible. If the US orphan system had these stats there would be a massive outcry for change and reform. While there is nothing that we can do from here to change the systems in Ukraine we can at least adopt several girls and give them the life that every child deserves. To grow up in a stable and safe home, provide them with everything they could ever need, and give them an education. Most importantly, we can give them love.

Presently we have passed the requirements to adopt the girls. We have an annual income to qualify for the additional children. However, we are burdened with the heavy cost of adopting these girls. We kindly ask that if this story touched you in any way that you please make a donation. If you cannot make a donation could you please share our story with your friends and family within your social circles, perhaps someone you know is willing to help.

Please help these girls get to have the chance at an incredible life, one without worry, trafficking, and death.

Thank you and God bless!
