The Barnett Family

God. Family. School. Football. If you've played for Coach Barnett, you've heard these words over and over again. Aaron Barnett played his high school football in Jamestown, New York, winning two of three state titles. He went onto college and won championships, then came back to coach teens at the little loop and high school level. He married Dawn, an avid football fan and teacher, who supported him while he sought a job in special education that allowed him to coach. Fortunately, this just occurred, but lurking beneath these happy circumstances, cancer found its way into his family. Dawn started feeling unusual pains in her abdomen and two years ago, underwent painful surgery, six rounds of chemotherapy and a host of other treatments to rid herself of what was thought to be ovarian cancer. This excruciating treatment coincided with the birth of their son, Cooper, who joined his college-bound brother, Trent. After operations such as a hysterectomy, Dawn was strong enough to return to teaching in the city of Buffalo, one of her passions. Yet the cancer returned, but this time in her lungs and bladder. Treatments that appeared to have erased the cancer were all for naught, as new evidence suggested her cancer was misdiagnosed.

But Dawn and Aaron are anything but quitters. When they were told their current treatment center could no longer address this new, aggressive form of cancer, they researched and made their next move, a move involving much travel to New York City and the Sloan-Kettering Hospital. Although doctors believe she has one of the rarest forms of cancer, possibly developed at birth, Dawn and Aaron are determined to fight it. Already they've changed their doctors and changed their diets en route to changing the status quo.

But they need your help.

As Aaron embarks on his first year of full-time teaching, they embark on their next trial. With the costs of a toddler at home and a sophomore in college, the Barnetts will have little left for flights to New York City, hotel rooms, treatment and other expenses.
Any donation is worthwhile when it comes to helping the Barnetts succeed, just as they have done for so many in classrooms and on the field.
