Barnett Community Wellness

Donation protected

My name is Liesha Barnett. I am a Personal Chef, Master Food Preserver, and a recent graduate of Arizona State University with a bachelors of science in Nutrition Communication. I got my start as a girl from Oakland, CA who decided to become a chef in the U.S. Navy. I am creating Barnett Community Wellness in order to teach the community at large how to improve their health one plate at a time. My classes range from nutrition education, to basic culinary skills as well as food preservation techniques. I am a food justice advocate and speak on behalf of those who live in food deserts all around our nation. I am currently writing a cookbook and a book about how to use preserved foods in everyday cooking.

I am a member of the American Culinary Federation, and the International Association of Culinary Professionals. I am a certified Oldways Taste of African Heritage instructor. I believe that honoring your heritage is part of the key to achieving your health goals and that everyone deserves a seat at the table.

I am the host of a weekly Facebook live called Chef Talk Monday as well as The Nutritional Minute in the Facebook group Vegan SoulSistuhs, and Wellness Wednesday in the Facebook group Women In Business Collective of San Joaquin County. I have a podcast The Mindful Chef where I talk about health disparities in the community and give tips to people on how to shop for health. I have been a guest on Good Day Sacramento highlighting the various uses of preserved foods. I was a guest on Ask the Good Doctor on Sirius XM Urban View with Dr. Brookshire, ND where I also spoke about the need for people to learn how to preserve food.

I am raising this money to purchase equipment for my workshops. I want to reach a broader audience and in order to do that I need equipment that will travel with me. I need portable stoves, canning supplies, dehydrators, pots, pans, and more. My next goal is to earn a certification as a Master Herbalist. I would be honored to have people donate to my campaign. This is the work I have dreamt of doing for so many years and I just want to be a blessing to the people. The majority of the workshops I offer are low cost so that money is not a barrier. Your donation will offset the cost of kitchen rental fees so that I will be able to continue to offer low cost workshops to those who need it most.

You can found out more about me and my journey on social media. I am Chef Liesha Barnett on Facebook. Chef Liesha on Twitter and Cheflieshalee on Instagram.
