Cafe Grumpy is an independent coffee company founded in 2005 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We are a family-owned business with 11 retail locations across NYC, NJ and Miami.
On March 16th 2020, Cafe Grumpy temporarily closed all 10 NYC and NJ locations due to rising safety concerns during the Covid-19 Pandemic. During this time, small businesses and employees were forced to choose between their safety and the safety of the public, and the income they rely on to survive.
The closure has left over 60 employees without work for at least the next two weeks. Our baristas like so many other hard working professionals in the service industry rely on tips to help cover the cost of food, clothing, medical care and rent. On average, tips make up 25% of our baristas income so we are asking for your help today to donate and support our baristas during this time.
Money collected will go directly to the tipped baristas who work day to day on the front lines of the operation. The money will be pooled and divided up based on the average amount of weekly hours each barista usually works. We are hoping to raise $18,000 to help cover the tips for all tipped employees for two weeks of work.
