Barbara's Mission to Beat Cancer

Donation protected
I have set up this page to raise money for my sister Barbara and her family who are very much in need.

Barbara has been battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma for almost 2 years and the many bills and expenses are mounting.  Hodgkin's Lymphoma is cancer that begins in the lymph system in white blood cells called lymphocytes.  When these cells become abnormal, they grow without control and form tumors.

Barbara was diagnosed in June 2012 when she was hospitalized after her lung collapsed due to one of the tumors. She has Hodgkin's Lymphoma which has turned out to be "unresponsive". She is currently Stage 4.

Barbara is 42, married to her husband Dan and they have 2 teenage children.  She is a graduate of Long Island University and currently working for the Monmouth County Parks Department.  Barbara loves nature and spending time with her family and friends.

For over a year, she has undergone chemotherapy treatments every two weeks at the Oncology/Infusion Center in South Jersey.  In June 2013, Barbara had an autologous stem cell transplant at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ.  This treatment was to take her stem cells out, recieve high doses of chemotherapy drugs and then get back her own stem cells to stimulate her bone marrow to make new cancer-free blood cells; however she did not respond to this treatment.

Since this setback, Barbara has been going to the Oncology/Infusion Center every three weeks for monoclonal antibody-chemotherapy treatments.  This is a biological therapy that develops antibodies to try and help destroy the cancer cells.
The next step is a stem cell transplant from a donor.

Recently, I was tested to be a stem cell donor; however I was not a match.  Her team at Robert Wood Johnson contacted the National Stem Cell Donor Bank and they were able to find two very close matches.  She is tentatively scheduled to be admitted to Robert Wood Johnson Hosptial the last week of June to begin the stem cell transplant with one of the donors.  Her doctors tell her that she will be in the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks to ensure that she does not have any complications and to allow her blood counts to get back up to a normal range.

This Fund:
This fund will cover Barbara's medical bills that are not covered by her insurance and any other related costs, including her numerous trips to and from the Oncology/Infusion Center and Robert Wood Johnson.  These expenses are mounting and continuing to add stress to our family already dealing with the ongoing reality of this terrible disease.
Every little donation and prayer can make a difference.  Barbara would never ask for help; however I know that she and her husband can no longer handle this financial burden on thier own.  So by showing your support, you can help bring comfort to the everyday stress of her battle and giver her the hope that she needs to continue to fight this disease.
