Barbara Jackson Funeral/Medical

As some of you may have heard, Barbara Jean Jackson passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 after a very lengthy illness. She will be missed for many reasons, but there are those of us who will enjoy reminders of her when we see a Lazy-Boy chair or fruitcake! Not to mention the loss of the Boston Celtics biggest fan! Barbara moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 2000 to live with her daughter Terry Jackson. Since that time, Barbara has endured many health issues involving several major surgeries. Through it all she fought to regain her health and independence back.
In the last few years, the surgeries, outpatient treatments, hospital and rehabilitation stays became more frequent and lasted longer. Since the beginning of 2015, Barbara has battled colon cancer and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Being her sole caregiver, Terry was responsible not only for her day to day needs, but also for all medical expenses not covered under insurance as well as living expenses over and above Barbara’s social security income.
From 1970 to 2000, Barbara was the caregiver to her brother, Bill, who was wounded in Vietnam and was a quadriplegic. Because Barbara did not work in a traditional setting, she did not have any life insurance or any savings for retirement or final expenses. Final expenses along with the medical bills not covered by Barbara’s health insurance have created a substantial financial burden for Terry.
The goal of this page is to raise funds to offset the total debt of $17,000. The funeral home expenses are $7,000 and the current medical expense debt that Terry has is $10,000.
Terry has provided her Mother with a loving and comfortable home for over 17 years and really needs the help of friends and family to, not only move on from the loss of her Mother, but to be able to recover from the impact of this debt.
