On Tuesday, March 26th, Banner was rushed to the Oklahoma University Children’s Hospital after discovering that his heart was severely enlarged during a routine check-up. There, he was diagnosed with ALCAPA – a rare heart defect which required immediate open-heart surgery. Banner is currently in the ICU recovering from his surgery.
ALCAPA stands for Anomalous Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery. In short, Banner’s heart muscle was only able to receive about half the amount of oxygen that it needed to function properly. His sweet little heart was having to work twice as hard to supply his body with the oxygen it needed to survive. Had his condition been discovered even a week later, doctors say, Banner wouldn’t have survived. It was by the grace of God and the prompting of the Holy Spirit that his condition was discovered in time and that he survived with the ALCAPA as long as he did.
We have created this to rally the prayer, support, and love of our close family and friends through Banner’s recovery process. The best way that we believe you can support Haydon, Summer, and baby Banner is to pray with us and give thanks for the healing and provision God has in store. This has also been created on their behalf in order to raise funds to cover the medical bills and various needs they will have. There are so many unknowns at this time. We ask that you consider contributing to this fund and partnering with us in prayer to see the Woods through this difficult time.
