2023 Bandon Community Christmas Day Dinner

When I heard there would be no holiday meals Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day this year, it made me very sad. I couldn't stop thinking about those in our community who need it most - the lonely, elderly and less fortunate folks who live here, who would otherwise have no means of having a traditional holiday meal while enjoying the camaraderie of neighbors, friends, and acquaintances.

I made some inquiries and then put out an appeal to the community. In a very short time, we need to solicit donations, both food and financial, arrange a venue, obtain liability insurance, designate volunteers to cook, welcome, serve, deliver to shut-ins, cleanup and myriad other tasks. I was able to get in touch with the original organizers to learn from their many years putting on the holiday meals.

When I first posted my idea and appeal on the four Bandon Facebook groups, I was overwhelmed by the response of people wanting to help, who stepped up to volunteer. But we need more folks so no one has to take on too much. If you can volunteer to help, please do. If you are able to donate food or money or even trash bags, please do. If you can do flyers and put them up, please let me know. If you are only able to contribute emotional support, please volunteer to welcome guests, set and clear tables or serve the meal itself. We'll need drivers to deliver meals to folks who can't attend.

I don't have all the answers, nor do I know everything so please, help if you can! Any and all input is welcome; not every idea is applicable or will work - but all is very much appreciated! I'll bet each of us knows someone who knows someone who can help. More details will be announced as they become available.
