Bamboo Homes/Families in Ecuador

Donation protected
With your contribution, we can help a family to have a home after they lost everything in 2016 after they were hit by a 7.8 earthquake. We need $4,400 to secure two families a safe and permanent place to live! Thank you in advance for your generosity!

On April 16th, 2016, a 7.8 Earthquake struck the northern coast of Ecuador, killing 800 people and leaving 7,000 families homeless in just 45 seconds; and very little possibilities to rebuild their lives by themselves. The provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas were the most affected. These families had to resort to living in tents, overcrowded refugee camps, and makeshift shelters. Today, there are still more than 3000 people -including hundreds of kids- living in shelters or hosted with relatives or friends.

Our names are Anais Clinch and Ana Imrie. We are from Ecuador, but we live in Massachusetts. Our families are from Quito and Cuenca, so thankfully neither of our families were affected by the earthquake. However, we want to help the affected families to rebuild their lives and have a home for their children.

We are supporting an incredible project called “CAEMBA project”, which stands for "Emergency Bamboo Homes". They provide families with properties of their own, allowing them to live in an actual home and a safer and more stable environment for their children. The project supports families with low income with very limited access to a livelihood. Their mission is to bring people back to a productive and peaceful life, away from the overcrowded shelters and the vicious habits that intrinsically occur within them.

Since April 19th, just 3 days after the earthquake, to July 4th, CAEMBA built 427 homes, which shelter over 2000 people in individual and private single family units, 27 classrooms, and 8 community centers. CAEMBA is determined to continue its work in the most ambitious way. Would you join this unique and effective project?
