I'm Edward Fitzgerald and I have a bold vision to permanently and positively transform the lives of at least 3 billion people. Not only to make a direct impact myself on humanity and the planet, but to also equip individuals with the tools necessary for them to make a positive impact on both their lives and those around them. Providing them with choices, to own their life and be a force for good.
That is why I have set-up this fundraising campaign to support this grass roots movement founded by ASHABA Faridah. Ashaba through her foundation is using her profession as one of the few lady pilots in Uganda to promote girl child education and empowerment among other things. By helping to stop early marriages, child pregnancies , domestic abuse against children and young women, women are then empowered within Ugandan society guided by the values of equality, accountability, inclusion and respect.
The Bambino Life Foundation is a non profit organization based in Uganda, East Africa, with a mission to enable the long term success of young women and children throughout Uganda by providing them access to basic human needs, education and knowledge.
One of the problems and issues we are addressing with our outreach programmes relate to basic hygiene for girls, simply enabling them to continue attending school during their menstruation cycle. This may sound a trivial thing, but young girls have committed suicide after being ridiculed at school for having accidents and messing up their uniforms during their menstruation (period). Many young girls have dropped out of school because of lack of sanitary pads, early pregnancies due to lack of knowledge about menstrual health management and lack of financial support!
“We may not be in position to solve all these problems as a foundation, but one thing we can do and have done is to educate young girls in rural parts of Uganda about menstrual health management! We have taken a step further by teaching them how to make reusable sanitary pads that are leak proof and comfortable enough, the reusable pads last for more than a year. Additionally, we also accompany this with other skills, like making liquid soap or mosquito repellent soap. This is for both domestic and commercial purposes for them to use when in need. We believe by teaching one girl these skills she is in a position to teach her entire homestead, we also involve young boys occasionally as they have sisters and mothers and we believe they should be educated about menstrual health to. We have taught over 3000 girls in different rural parts of Uganda and have worked alongside organizations that have the same mission with us like Girl Up Campaign UK among others”. Ashaba Faridah
Donations enable Bambino Life Foundation to purchase the materials needed for training the girls on how to make re-usable (washable) sanitary pads, provide ongoing education to prevent many girls from dropping out of school due to pregnancy. Training and materials to make liquid and mosquito repellent soaps. Outreach education to raise awareness of abuse and violence towards children and young women, empowerment and development initiatives.
Outreach training to Kamuda ss located in Soroti district.
The following is a breakdown of the costs and the difference your donations will make to the children and girls in Uganda:
US$ 50 - Enables purchase of sanitary pads materials and training for 20 girls
US$ 100 - Enables purchase of sanitary pads materials and training for 50 girls
US$ 150 - Enables purchase of sanitary pads materials and training for 120 girls
Material required for sanitary pads (needles, threads, buttons, fleece, cotton material, water proof material, measuring tapes, markers, scissors)
As an organization we are reliant upon both trainers and volunteers who make these outreaches possible, funding assists us in providing transportation and accommodation for the rural outreach initiatives.
Note: Everything that is provided for the girls to use during training is left for them to continue making the pads and soaps.
We have impacted more than 3000 girls in different parts of Uganda, empowering them through teaching of hands on skills- making reusable pads, soap, detergent etc for both personal and future commercial benefits. We also have movie screenings of inspirational films which serve to both motivate and encourage them towards a better more fulfilling life.
With your help, we would like to impact and empower more than 10,000 girls in Uganda contributing towards their education, giving them a better and brighter future.
Your donation means so much to us and the children you are supporting. We hope that you will continue to follow our journey as we impact more young lives throughout Uganda in the coming years.
