Balmy Alley Block Party

Come celebrate the unveiling of the newest mural in Balmy Alley, Women of the Resistance! We are raising money for a community block party in the Mission District, a chance for neighbors to come together, showcase their art, display projects, sell belongings, and share space in the alley. There will be speeches by the mural artists, a blessing by Jorge Molina, a ceremony by Aztec Dancers , music by Almas Fronterizas, DJ Lady Q, and more. These funds will go directly to finishing the mural, paying the performers, and covering the cost of street permits. About the mural, we started painting this mural in June with the idea in mind that women all over the world have been, and are currently, leading the revolution. We wanted to pay our respects to some of these revolutionaries, a group of 38 who we find as powerful beacons of hope during these dark times. With Lucia Ippolito leading this project, the artist behind the Mission Makeover Mural, she wanted to create a bridge for other women artists and muralists she knows in her community of San Francisco. She managed to gather a crew of women and allies, from all different backgrounds in the arts, to paint this project. We know that this mural will help bring awareness to the important fight these activists have led and inspire others to continue moving forward in the resistance. This mural will be up for the next decade, encouraging young women and youth in the mission, in the city, and around the world to be motivated to step up in any way, whether that be art or activism, and follow in the steps of these women portrayed by becoming leaders in their community.
