Balfour Chapel

The Balfour and District Business and Historic Association Heritage Committee is looking to raise about $35,000.00  to help with the purchase price and an additional $15,000.00 to help add a wheelchair access and septic system with a washroom to the Heritage church at 8551 Busk Road Balfour BC.  The B.D.B.H.A. has entered into an agreement with the Anglican diocese to purchase the church and has a year to raise the money.  This time will will up on January 31 2021.

The purchase price of the church and fees are approximately 127,000.00 and then the renovations on top of that. Much of the money  is tentatively raised through grants but we need  community and private donors to help us to raise the balance. We'd  be so grateful for community support as we view  this as a community acquisition.  It was built by the community and maintained by them for 128 years and it is fitting to have it remain with the community for the future.

New Name
Once the purchase is final the actual name of the chapel will be the St. Michael's and All Angels Chapel and Performance Center.

Benefits
The chapel will be a community asset and benefit.  The outlet communities, Balfour, Harrop, Proctor, Queens Bay and Longbeach  do not have a lot of historic buildings preserved as community assets and the Heritage Committee of this area is trying to insure we do not lose this church that has been in operation from 1892- 2020.

Services were discontinued in December of last year for the Anglicans but another Christian denomination has continued to hold services.   .
The intended uses of the premises will be fourfold
1 It is now a registered heritage site and will be an attraction to visitors as a museum of sorts,
2 it will still be available for rentals for church services,
3 it will be advertised as a destination wedding /anniversary  venue,
4  it will be a venue for small musical  and other performances.

Note that it will not be available large concerts or rock bands or performances that disturb neighborhoods. It will be a community respective site.
It is hoped to get on the concert circuit similar to the Langham Performance center in Kaslo B.C.  The place is not large and is tucked into a residential district  so therefore not suitable for such events.
