Help bail out Hali!
Hali is a Black and Native mother who was arrested in early July for "custody interference” involving her biological child. She had recently left an abusive situation with her child, and had not been able to amend custody back to herself before leaving. She had found a safe place to heal with her child, but was tracked there, separated from her child, and arrested. Her child was returned to the abusive situation, and she is in fear for their safety.
Her bail was previously set at $100,000, but reduced to $25,000. Various groups are able to contribute bail, but we need $10,000 more to bail her out. Otherwise, she will remain incarcerated until at least late October, her trial.
We are raising money to bail Hali out. We know that as a Black and Indigenous woman, her life is especially in danger while she is in jail. Additionally, with the rates of COVID-19 cases increasing rapidly, detention center conditions do not allow for vital precautions such as social distancing and efficient sanitization. Help bail Hali from this unjust and dangerous situation. No one should have to face trauma after trauma like this.
Every contribution helps free Hali and allow her to fight for her child.
Any funds contributed going beyond $10,000 will be used for Hali’s legal fees in working to reunite with her daughter, and to help her get back on her feet.
She will be receiving support from community organizations once she is free. Once Hali appears for her court dates, the returned fundraised money will go back to her for helping with legal fees and in ways she sees fit. Documentation and receipts of this transfer will be posted for accountability.
