Bahamian Teen Needs Your Help

My name is Eduardo, a 17 year old from The Bahamas. As a young boy, around the age of 4 years old, my mom would take me to the airport to watch planes take-off and land.  I guess this was the first of a string of events that sparked my passion and interest in flying.  I was amazed at how an airplane functioned. How a machine that weighs literal tons, can manage to stay airborne for hours at a time.  Since then, I have wanted to and dreamt of becoming an airline pilot. Now I am so much closer to making my dream become a reality.

I decided that in order to fulfill this dream, I had to do well in school and achieve good grades, which I did.  From the first grade all the way to my senior year, to graduation, I have remained on the honor roll, earning a 3.71 in my final semester of school, and a 3.26 GPA overall for my high school career.

Life has not been a very easy one for me. Growing up on one of The Bahama islands, I have experienced many hardships and challenges.  I have lived through three major category five hurricanes in my short existence. The worst being hurricane Dorian, back on September 1st, 2019 which decimated the Abaco island and cays. My family and I were displaced after the storm, my school was destroyed and I had to live with relatives for almost one year.

This all happened when I was scheduled to enter the 12th grade of high school. Having to leave all my friends, teachers, and my way of life behind in Abaco and relocate to Florida was very challenging.  I had to adjust to a whole new way of life. Despite this, my parents were always there to encourage me to do my best despite the obstacles presented to me.

After the move to Florida, I remained focused, did my best, and applied to three aeronautical universities; Lynn University, Florida Tech, and Embry Riddle. I was accepted into all three, and made Embry-Riddle my final choice, seeing that it is the most prestigious aeronautical university in the world. I was set to begin classes in the Fall of 2020, however, due to the Covid-19 virus, and lack of funds, I hope to now start in the Spring of 2021. It was a dream come true being accepted by this university and I was very excited. However, the tuition is very expensive and my parents cannot afford to pay it, especially since the Covid-19 virus has put my father out of employment, leaving only my mother to shoulder the burden of paying all the bills. This situation has therefore forced me to seek outside sources for financial assistance.

I have applied to The Bahamas Ministry of Education and other private organizations for scholarships, but I was told that due to the virus, scholarships are presently on hold. It is my dream to become a commercial airline pilot and attending Embry-Riddle University will help this dream become a reality.

Seeing that life often throw obstacles, not just in my life, but everyone else's, the obstacle that I now have to overcome is a financial one.  I am therefore pleading for any financial assistance that I can garner from both the local and international public.  I am just an island boy from a very small country, with a dream of one day making everyone that supports me proud, by entering the cockpit as a junior pilot and one day a captain. So please, help and support me. Your contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all so much for your time and your generous help. May God bless you.

P.S. Below is the cost of attending Embry-Riddle
