Help Us Bring Christmas Cheer to Local Families

As the year turns and Christmas draws near, the Badenoch & Strathspey Food Hub is preparing our annual Christmas Bag Project – a tradition that last year brought comfort and joy to over 350 households in our community.

Each bag is more than just food. It’s a message of care. Inside are everyday essentials like soup and tinned goods, alongside festive treats – mince pies, Christmas pudding, custard – and even small gifts for children. We tailor every bag to individual needs: larger families, people with dietary requirements, even households with pets.

For many, Christmas can be financially and emotionally tough. Our bags go to those who need them most – families referred through schools, health workers, charities, and community groups. But they’re not only about financial hardship. Sometimes, it’s about easing loneliness, lifting spirits after loss, or simply letting someone know they are not forgotten.

Each bag costs around £20 to put together (more for larger families). Last year, the project cost over £7,000. This year, demand is rising – food table use and emergency requests are higher than ever – while donations are falling.
