Medical Bills- Hatin' on Cancer!

Donation protected
It happened in an instant- a whirlwind. A nightmare that you never wake from. The strongest man we knew was lifted from earth and delivered from his 16 year battle with melanoma cancer. In death's wake, we are left shocked, inspired, and grief stricken. After a long, courageous battle of surgeries, tests, scans, research and prayers, Dad's seemingly "controlled" cancer spread like wild-fire and ultimately claimed his liver and brain. In the span of two weeks, Dad went from being a retired 'Pawpaw' enjoying his family to being in a bed at Ohio State University fighting for his life. After one week in the James Cancer Hospital, we brought Dad home under the supervision of Hospice of Dayton. We had made the most difficult of decisions to no longer treat the disease and instead to make him comfortable in his final days. Our mother (his wife of 34 years), myself and my 3 sisters took turns taking care of him around the clock. We were told to say our goodbyes and spend as much special time with him as we could. How do you say goodbye in 3 days? Dad came home on Monday, February 10, 2014 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 4:45pm on Thursday, February 13, 2014. The whole family surrounded his bed and assured him we would be fine. Life is full of hard times and difficult choices and lessons, but the most difficult thing to date was watching my Daddy's final breaths.
Written in our DNA is dedication and hard work. Dad consistently worked overtime as a service technician at Columbia Gas of Ohio before he retired in 2010. Never turned down a service call. Even after his retirement, he worked for a short while part-time transporting low-income patients back and forth to doctor appointments. Mom has worked 2 jobs for as long as I can remember. Since I was very young, she has had a paper route at night so that she could stay home during the day with us kids. For the last 3+ years, she has worked behind the scenes at Texas Roadhouse. When Dad went to the hospital, mom took leave from Roadhouse to be able to take care of him. In the aftermath, she is left with astronomical medical bills, funeral and burial costs, and less income. The stress and grief of losing a husband is a tall mountain to climb, and our goal is to help lighten her load. If we can help cover day to day living costs, or take a chunk out of Dad's medical bills, it will be a blessing. However you can help..for whatever reason, we consider it a great gift. Help us remember our dad's courageous fight and lift up our mom in this most difficult time. Thank you in advance!
