My name is Kalia and I'm a local eighth grader from Solana Beach.
Last year I came up with an idea to collect used and new backpacks as well as school supplies to donate to local kids in need throughout San Diego.
Through your generosity, we collected over 300 backpacks and raised over $4000. These donations went directly to help local kids as well as children affected by childhood cancer through the Emilio Nares Foundation and kids struggling with near homelessness through the Therapeutic Childcare Center at Father Joe's Villages.
This year, we are partnering with a local nonprofit called "Solana Beach Backpacks for Kids" which was started by a local mom who saw a need in our community and decided to do something about it. Our collected backpacks will be donated to her organization which will allow her to continue her mission in supporting local school children.
I'm confident that this year, together we can not only meet but also exceed our goals of 500 backpacks and $5000.
Please consider dropping off any used backpacks (with working zippers) at your local STAPLES, local LIBRARY locations, Lomas Santa Fe Country Club as well as several local elementary schools (TBD).
If you do not have any backpacks to donate, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to either the ENF or FJV organizations.
My dream of making this an annual event has come true and, with your support, I believe we can give much needed backpacks to those who need them the most.
Want to join me in making a difference? Any tax deductible donation will help make an impact.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause!
