<div>Tom Prebble was working as an apprentice jockey when he fell in a race at Warrnambool (Victoria, Australia) on Tuesday 9th September. Tom is just 23-years-old.

<div>Nearly eight weeks on, doctors have confirmed to Tom that his spinal cord injury sees him a “complete ASIA A paraplegic at T4 level”, meaning there is no sensory or motor function below the T4 spinal cord level, resulting in paralysis of the trunk and legs, but preserving arm function. The injury is “complete” because all movement and sensation in the body from the T4 level down is lost.

<div>I’m so proud of how brave he’s been facing the realty of life as a paraplegic and how strong he is as he begins to understand all the life challenges and changes the diagnosis of paraplegia brings.

<div>Tom has already begun to explore so many new possible treatments that are out there. Some of these are local, others interstate, and some overseas. He knows some of these treatments will be self-funded and highly expensive, but he wants to give himself every possible chance now and in the future, so that he can get the best outcomes he can for his new life ahead.

<div>My goal is to reach out to everyone involved in Racing and even beyond, including Tom’s fellow jockeys, owners, trainers, other participants, race clubs, administrators, punters and supporters. The goal is to reach out to everyone, not just those of us who know Tom here in Victoria, but also people around Australia, as well as his friends in Hong Kong where he grew up and actually, everyone involved in Racing around the world.
