Hi, my name is Ava and in Summer 2027 I'm hoping to take part in a Camps International expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
This 4 week expedition will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to experience some of the world’s most amazing bucket-list destinations and leave a lasting positive impact for the people and places I'll visit.
I'll be spending time working on environmental projects in the spectacular Amazon rainforest and then heading off to the Galápagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to experience the natural wonderland that inspired Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.

My expedition has 3 parts to it;
- Community
- Environment and
- Adventure.
For the Community part of the expedition, I might be building a classroom to improve access to education, or helping local people to install a clean water supply for an entire village. For the Environment part, I could be planting seedlings in a tree nursery in the rainforest or recycling plastic waste into eco-friendly building materials. For the adventure part I'll be exploring the Galapagos Islands, snorkelling, seeing a huge variety of animals (including the famous giant tortoise), and visiting tropical beaches and volcanoes. Everything I'll be working on is aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
I'll be going back to basics and off-grid (yes, that means without my phone) and staying in traditional camps in remote areas of the rainforest. All of this is well and truly outside my comfort zone!
This will be the hardest thing I've ever had to do, both physically and mentally but I know that it will help me gain really important life skills like teamwork, leadership, and communication. Best of all, I'll get to meet new people, experience new cultures and help communities that are a world away from mine.
