Babylon

Hi! My name is Dana and I'm a filmmaker local to Colorado Springs. I recently completed my first feature film BABYLON. Production was completed over the course of eight months between 2018 and 2019, and included a total cast of 64, a crew of 40, two wolves, two trained rats, and one boa constrictor.

This was an ambitious project - one we weren't sure we could pull off. But through the skillset and dedication of the cast and crew, the top-quality equipment we were blessed to use, and the financial help we received for our budget, we wrapped and finished post-production.

Speaking of the budget, that's where you come in. The first $8,500 that we raised was used in pre-production (makeup, several gallons' worth of fake blood, costumes), production (location fees, additional costumes and makeup, food and water for performers and crew members...and more fake blood), and post-production (editing fees - no more fake blood at this point).

Now, we'd like to continue raising funds toward our goal budget in order to pay for film festival submission costs. This cast and crew put in months to years of effort on this project, and they deserve as much exposure to their hard work as it can achieve.

Speaking of that, maybe you'd like to know a little about the film itself. BABYLON is an ensemble piece and a morality play; an apocalyptic retelling of the book of Daniel that completes as a revenge tragedy. Our story picks up one year after a plague called the Red Death wipes out two-thirds of the American population. Borders and airports have closed, and the country has been left to die by itself. While rumors of an antidote north of the border circulate, a murdered politician's son crowns himself gatekeeper of a secluded mountain community, and it's there that we meet captive brothers Leonidas, Owen, and Jonah. As they form relationships with the other prisoners, we face with them questions of masculinity, brotherhood, addiction, grief, and how we hold our humanity in the presence of wolves.

I'm thankful that the film turned out so well, and hopeful it will find a home in several festivals in the coming year. But submission costs add up fast. I'd like to invite you to help us make a film that we can be proud of, that you can truly enjoy watching, that's worth the time and effort put in, that can be as beautiful as the truth of the piece itself: that no matter who we are or what's been done to us, no matter if we're cast into the den of lions or the fiery furnace, we are capable of grace, softness, forgiveness, and hope. Thanks for reading. See you at the lighthouse.
